The Cedar Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation registered in Bulgaria in 2005 that focuses on de-institutionalisation: the process of closing down the big specialized institutions for children and young adults with physical and intellectual difficulty and replacing them with family-type community services.
We manage the Family-type homes “Siyanie” in the town of Kyustendil where 24 children and young adults with physical and intellectual difficulty live. They previously lived in an old, dilapidated and isolated institution in the village of Gorna Koznitsa prior to its closure in 2010, carried out with the active participation of the Foundation.
Cedar also supports the work of a Day care Centre for children with special needs in the town of Kazanlak. The Foundation provides trainings for the staff, professional exchange programs as well as additional staff, materials and equipment.
The Cedar Foundation works in partnership with national and local Bulgarian authorities, other Bulgarian and foreign NGOs and other shareholders. It is a member of National Network for Children, National Alliance for Social Responsibility and Eurochild.
